David Broad introduced the speaker, Avril Gilmour Ford from Capital Regional District, who spoke on the topic “Environmental Issues – Recycling, 3R’s, Blue Boxes Etc.”
The presentation was excellent, and many
questions were asked by members and
answered very capably by Ms. Ford.
Rod McLeod thanked the speaker and
presented her with the gift wooden bowl.

Miscellaneous Reports
Bridge – Jim Surgenor: Jim reported that the Bridge Group’s wind-up dinner would be held at Odyssia Restaurant on May 9, 2019, which date is the 25th Anniversary of the Probus Club of Saanich Peninsula – formed May 9, 1994.
Golf – Andy Rosequist: Andy asked for a show of hand of members interested in attending monthly tournaments, and seeing sufficient interest, noted that the first outing will be at Highland Pacific in April, date to be announced later.
Hoppy Hour – Rod McLeod: Hoppy hour will next be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday February 13 at the Charles Dickens Pub in Sidney.
Executive Reports
Vice President: Don Amos – Don noted that the Management Meeting at his home would be at 1:00 pm in order to provide time to get to the 3:00 pm Hoppy Hour.
Membership: Andy Rosequist: Andy reported that 56 members were in attendance, and that fees collected were $112.35, some generous member having provided an extra 35 cents!
Treasurer: Peter Keith-Murray sitting in for Vic Swan until March 1, 2019: Bank balance as of February 1, 2019 is $1,483.24.
Secretary: Rod Fimrite: Rod noted that May 9, 2019 will mark the 25th. Anniversary of the Club, and encouraged members to suggest ways to celebrate this milestone. The only current members from 1994, the founding year, are Al Radons and Rand Evans.
Speakers: Rod McLeod: Rod reported that the speaker at the March 7, 2019 General meeting would be Leanne Kopp from Island Prostate Cancer Center. Rod also asked members to contact him regarding any possible candidates for guest speaker.
Events: Mike Parfitt: Mike noted that the tour of the Helicopter Squadron will be at 10:00 am Friday February 8, and that 20 members are signed up for that event. Some members may follow the event with lunch at the Spitfire Grill. Mike also indicated that the proposed on-board outing at the naval base at Esquimalt will not happen this year due to the Navy focusing on recruiting, but that we are on the list for a future visit. There was some interest from members in a tour of the Maritime Museum, and that may be arranged for later in February.
50-50 Draw administered by Don Amos: Won by John Olson $42.00. John will be responsible to handle the 50-50 draw at the March 7th. Meeting.
