Kevin Murphy thanking Hannah Nawroth and Krista Enderud

Rod McLeod introduced Hannah Nawroth and Krista Enderud of Panorama Recreation Centre, whose topic was “Seniors Programs at Panorama”. Ms. Nawroth is Acting Adult Recreation Coordinator at Panorama, and holds Degrees in Fitness Leadership and in Sustainable Community Development from Camosun College and Royal Roads University. Ms. Enderud is the Fitness, Weights, and Rehabilitation Coordinator at Panorama, and has a degree in Psychology and a certificate from BCRPA in Group Fitness and Weight Training.

These knowledgeable ladies provided an extensive outline of Panorama’s programs for older people, and answered a number of questions from members about those programs.

New member John  Blomfield was inducted and presented with his membership pin and a roster booklet. John, born in England, has enjoyed a career that included teaching in England and Hong Kong, and employment in the engineering aspects of the utility and petroleum industries. John and his wife retired to the Saanich Peninsula about twenty years ago. Welcome to the club John!

Miscellaneous reports

Golf: – Golf continues for the winter months at the Ridge on Fridays, and Andy Rosequist indicated that monthly Thursday golf would commence in April.

Hoppy Club: – Rod McLeod and Andy Rosequist announced that the next gathering will be held Wednesday January 9th at the Boondocks Pub in Sidney at 3:00 pm.

Executive Reports
Membership Chair Andy Rosequist – Andy advised that 43 members and one guest were present at the meeting.

Secretary Rod Fimrite – Rod reported that Hub Insurance, who have been providing officers and directors liability insurance through a premium provided by a portion of dues to Probus Canada, and general liability insurance at a cost of $300.00 per year payable by each club, would now provide the general liability insurance at no cost other than that included in the dues to Probus Canada, as they have never had a claim from any Probus Club in Canada.

Treasurer – Peter Keith Murray acting for Treasurer Vic Swann – Peter advised that our bank balance is $999.58, but that 15 members have not paid their dues for the current year. Dues from 7 members were collected at the meeting, and it is likely that most of the remaining members with unpaid dues will be stricken from the membership register.

Speakers – Rod McLeod – Rod has arranged that Avril Gilmour Ford from the Capital Regional District will be guest speaker at the February 7th meeting, on the topic of Environmental Issues, and that Leanne Kopp from Island Prostate will be the guest speaker at the March 7th 2019 meeting.

Events Committee – Mike Parfitt – Mike has arranged an RCAF Helicopter Squadron tour for late January or early February, and will email details to members when finalized. Mike expects that tour will be limited to 10 members. A tour of Nicholson Manufacturing is being planned for late February. Mike thanked Noel Currie and Keith Rolfe for organizing the Christmas Luncheon, which was held at the Army Navy Veteran’s Hall in Sidney on December 6th. Mike invited comments on that event and suggestions for other possible venues for future years.

Past President Jim Dryden – Jim reported that member Jim Cumming suffered a severe heart attack, which resulted in a fall, which in turn resulted in a broken collarbone, but that he is now resting comfortably at home. Jim has a new phone number, 250-665-6659 and his address is now #2 – 9625 Fifth Street, Sidney, BC, V8L 2W7.

The 50/50 draw of $28.00, was won by Don Amos, who will be responsible for the draw at the February 7th, 2019 meeting.
