John (Jack) Norris Askham
June 19, 1925 to January 25, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Jack Askham, who died peacefully at the Summit Long Term Care residence in Victoria BC on
Thursday January 25, 2024.
Jack was born in Toronto Ontario in 1925 and followed his family to Vancouver Island in the late 1940’s where he began his career in the commercial printing industry with the Queen’s Printer. His career led him to work with many large companies before starting his own company, PS Printer’s Supply in Vancouver BC.
Upon retiring, Jack returned to Vancouver Island joining the Arbutus Ridge golf community. There he became a member of the Arbutus Ridge Golf Course and made many friends, golfing with them every day. Moving to Central Saanich, Jack joined the Probus Club of the Saanich Peninsula. He cherished his membership in Probus, especially the weekly golf games, comradery, and outings. He was still a Probus member until his 97th year, golfing weekly with his “Probus Guys”.
Jack was the founding publisher and editor of the Canadian Archery Magazine in the 1950’s through his love of archery in his youth.
Jack was predeceased by his first wife Ruby (Harding) and his sister Margaret Askham. He is survived by his two sons Greg (Terri), Dan (Denise), his grandchildren Meagan (Brad), Kristina (Jamie), Reanne (John) and Danielle along with his three great grandchildren Graham, Grace and Sadie. He is also survived by his second wife Gloria (Unwin), her children Paul (Laureen) Christopher (Julia) and Lori-May (Mike) and her grandchildren Heather, Haley and Emily.
Jack will be greatly missed by his families in the Comox Valley, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria.
A special thank you to Dr. Vaughn and the kind and gentle staff at the Summit Iris Wing where he spent his final months.
