2025 Annual General Meeting Notice of Motions
Due to ongoing issues of membership the following Notice of Motions are being provided for your consideration:
#1: Inclusion of women,
and
#2 Amalgamation with Brentwood Bay Probus Club
PROBUS CLUB OF THE SAANICH PENINSULA, BC
The “Club”
NOTICE OF MOTION #1
WHEREFORE the Club’s number of members has been in steady decline over the last number of years with the average age of the Club’s membership increasing to 81 years of age; and
As a result there has been a reduced level of participation in club events; and
The cost of operating the Club has increased on a per member basis.
THEREFORE it is proposed that in order to increase the number of members the qualification for membership be amended at the Annual General Meeting on September 04, 2025 to include women; and
That the Constitution Membership clause, namely:
“II(1) The Club shall be for men who have some measure of responsibility or achievement in any field of worthy endeavor.”
Shall be amended as follows:
“II(1) The Club shall be for men and women who have some measure of responsibility or achievement in any field of worthy endeavor.”
The Bylaw #3: Membership clause, namely
:
“(1) The Club shall be an all-male social club, based on the assurance by Probus Centre Canada, Inc. that this does not contravene any federal or provincial anti-discrimination or gender-based legislation.”
Shall be deleted and replaced as follows:
(1) The Club shall be a social club open to men and women, based on the assurance by Probus Centre Canada, Inc.

WHEREFORE the Club’s number of members has been in steady decline over the last number of years with the average age of the Club’s membership increasing to 81 years of age; and

The cost of operating the Club has increased on a per member basis.
THEREFORE it is proposed that in order to increase the number of members, the management committee explore the amalgamation of the Club with the Brentwood Probus Club and in the event that a potential agreement is reached, the management committee will present a motion to the Club for ratification.
