Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is a process whereby a doctor or nurse practitioner helps and supports a patient who wants to voluntarily, intentionally end their suffering. Medical Assistance in Dying has been legal in Canada since June 2016 and is governed under federal law.
Our speaker, Rosanne Beuthin, has a PhD in Nursing, and in her career has focused on practice and research in the areas of living with life threatening illness, death, and bereavement.
From 2016 to 2021 She had a lead role in the development and implementation of an island wide program for “Medical Assistance in Dying.”
She worked to establish a MAiD House (non-profit) in Victoria – the second of its kind in Canada.
