Robert Forbes – Angel in a Spitfire The largely unknown story of RCAF Wing Commander Lloyd Vernun Chadburn, Distinguished Service Order & Bar, Distinguished Flying Cross, Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur, Croix de Guerre avec Palme. He was Canada’s most decorated fighter pilots of WWII. Known as “the Angel” by American Bomber crews for his fearless escort missions into Nazi-occupied Europe. He led RCAF 416 Squadron during the Dieppe Raid in 1942, then commanded the Canadian Digby Wing in 1943 and RCAF 127 Wing over D-Day. Rob Fobes explores Chadburn’s meteoric career. |

Our June tournament is at Arbutus Ridge on Thursday, June 18. We choose Thursday to stay for their great roast beef dinner. This is always a fun event and shouldn't be missed!
We have four tee times and they start at 12:00 p.m. Please plan to be there by 11:00 or so. The fees are as follows:
Green fee and shared power cart: $106.40 after tax.
The roast beef dinner is $36 plus tax and automatic gratuity, totalling $44.30.
Total for green fees, shared power cart and meal is $150.70 after all taxes and gratuities.
When registering for this event, please specify if you will be joining us for dinner. You then pay for golf and dinner in the Pro Shop when you check in.
Please also bring $5 for tournament prizes.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is a process whereby a doctor or nurse practitioner helps and supports a patient who wants to voluntarily, intentionally end their suffering. Medical Assistance in Dying has been legal in Canada since June 2016 and is governed under federal law. Our speaker, Rosanne Beuthin, has a PhD in Nursing, and in her career has focused on practice and research in the areas of living with life threatening illness, death, and bereavement. From 2016 to 2021 She had a lead role in the development and implementation of an island wide program for “Medical Assistance in Dying.” She worked to establish a MAiD House (non-profit) in Victoria – the second of its kind in Canada. |

Our August outing is this August 12, 2026 with tee times starting at 12:02. We have reserved four tee times.
This year's business arrangement with Cedar Hill is a little different. We are required to register as an "event". As such, we must pay in full on August 5 before the event. Green fees, including shared power carts and taxes, will be $88.45 per person. Payment, via interact e-transfer (dougroyross@icloud.com) must be made on or before July 29. If you haven't paid by then, you will be dropped from the tee sheet.
A couple of points to be made: if you like to walk, that's fine but you'll still have to pay for the half power cart. The golf course requires this to save 8 carts for us; a decision will be made by August 4 to proceed with the event. If the weather looks bad or we don't get enough people (at least three foursomes), the event will be cancelled. In the event of cancellation, all moneys will be returned to the players via internet e-transfer.
The August 4 decision date is firm because if we proceed by paying in full and we get rained out, we can't get our money back.
These stricter rules for groups at Cedar Hill is inconvenient for us. If it proves difficult after the first outing, we may change our venue for the August Cedar Hill event.
